Love in Portofino
The celebrations began at the legendary Splendido Hotel, overlooking Portofino and its harbour. An intimate welcome set against one of the most recognisable views of the Italian Riviera.
For the occasion, Gillian wore a sculptural calla lily design, echoed in the floral arrangements created for the evening — a subtle dialogue between fashion, flowers and setting that established the tone for the days ahead.
The following day, guests gathered for an intimate reception at Marina di Bardi. A quieter moment within the wedding weekend, designed to embrace the effortless character of Portofino and allow everyone to enjoy the destination before the wedding day.
The wedding day took place at Imperiale Palace Hotel, an extraordinary historic setting overlooking the bay. The ceremony was held outdoors, framed by sweeping sea views and an ethereal composition of blue flowers.
Against the Mediterranean landscape, the soft blue palette created a romantic yet contemporary atmosphere — delicate, refined and intentionally understated.
Gillian walked down the aisle wearing Danielle Frankel, bringing a modern sensibility to the timeless Italian setting.
For dinner, the celebration moved inside the hotel and the atmosphere transformed completely. The softness of the ceremony gave way to deeper burgundy florals, candlelight and rich, layered details.
A wishing tree invited guests to leave handwritten notes for Gillian and Waleed, creating a collection of personal memories for the couple to keep long after their wedding in Portofino.
The dinner space was defined by a bespoke champagne-toned textile installation, conceived as both a backdrop and a storytelling element. Throughout the evening, the couple’s monogram and intimate family home videos were projected onto the draped fabric, bringing something deeply personal into the grandeur of the room.
In front of the installation, Gillian and Waleed cut a spectacular traditional Rapallo cake — a final theatrical moment before the celebration continued into the night.
